This is the PERFECT way to introduce your students to the scientific method! The book is written at a Guided Reading level N and is a quick read. This book is a great way to help students develop a deeper understanding of the steps of the scientific method and why we use them. 2) The Magic School Bus Gets Baked in a Cake

The Magic School Bus series is a classic for a reason! Students will learn all about chemistry while enjoying a funny, entertaining story with their favourite characters. I highly suggest reading this book and then doing some baking as a class, discussing the different chemical changes that students observe. Students are SO motivated by baking and it is super fun!

This is a non-fiction informational book. This book would be PERFECT for students to use to research various mixtures and solutions. As an added bonus, the book includes several fun experiments that you could complete as a class to emphasize the information that they are learning!

4) What is the World Made Of?

This book starts off in a really funny way, that will grab the interest of your budding scientists! Then it  describes the three states of matter in a way that is easy for kids to understand. The book ends by discussing the special properties of water and water’s ability to easily change from a solid, to a liquid, to a gas. This book is an easy read for your upper elementary students and your English Language Learners will get a LOT out of it!

5) Chemistry Around the House

This informational book is written at a bit of a higher reading level. Lots of tricky vocabulary terms, such as catalyst are introduced. It would be super fun to do some of the experiments that are introduced in the book, in the classroom! Kids would love to bake cakes or clean pennies.
