Are you teaching French as a Second Language or core French? Do you need to teach your FSL students French names of animals but aren’t really sure where to start? Then this blog post is for you! Here are three easy ways to teach the French names of animals.
1) Introduce the French Names of Animals to Students With Fun Songs
I love to incorporate music into French classes! It can be fun to start each class with a different song to help students learn the French names of animals. Here are a few of my favourites!
2) Play Fun Games
I love to incorporate games when teaching the French names of animals. One of my all-time favourite games for this unit is my French Would You Rather Animals Game. Students LOVE to state their big bold opinions about the animals that they prefer. Doing so provides amazing language opportunities.

3) Project Time
Students love to complete projects. They enjoy being given voice and choice to choose which habitats and animals to study. One of my favourite projects when teaching French names of animals is something that I like to call “Mouval”. Essentially students create an animal mashup. A “mouval” is a combination of mouton and cheval.
