Finding online French language games that are both engaging and educational can be a challenge. As a French as a Second Language (FSL) teacher, I’m always on the lookout for French games that are fun while reinforcing key vocabulary and language skills. Whether you’re teaching numbers, family members, or healthy eating in French, these free online games will add variety to your classroom and keep students excited about learning!

Online French Language Games – FrenchGames.net
https://www.french-games.net/frenchgames is a great website for online French language games! It offers a variety of simple, interactive games that allow students to select their own vocabulary sets, giving them a sense of ownership over their learning.
Students can practice topics like:
✔ French numbers
✔ Family members
✔ Body parts
✔ And much more!
These French games that are fun provide an easy way to incorporate more student choice in your FSL classroom. They also pair perfectly with my Alberta Grade 5 French as a Second Language Bundle, giving students additional opportunities to reinforce their learning through engaging digital activities.
Online French Language Games – Digital Dialects
Digital Dialects is filled with simple games for beginning French learners. These basic games come with audio and non-audio versions. I definitely prefer the audio games as I strongly believe that our elementary second language learners need to hear French as much as possible. However, be sure to have students wear headphones so that you don’t go insane from the noise!
A few highlights of this site:
✔ Audio-enhanced vocabulary games
✔ A variety of themes, including Fruits and Vegetables
✔ Great for reinforcing vocabulary through repetition
The Fruits and Vegetables game would be great for students studying healthy eating in French. There are tons of games on this site that correspond nicely with my Alberta Grade 6 French as a Second Language Bundle! Looking for more ideas for teaching your French Healthy Eating unit? Online French Language Games – Duolingo
https://www.duolingo.com/ has been a longtime favourite of mine, and for good reason! It acts as a virtual French tutor, allowing students to progress through a variety of activities at their own pace. One of the biggest advantages of Duolingo is that students can log in using their Google accounts—an absolute lifesaver for elementary teachers who constantly deal with forgotten passwords!
Why Duolingo stands out:
✔ Personalized learning paths for each student
✔ Gamified lessons that make language learning fun
✔ Immediate feedback to reinforce correct answers
Whether you’re using it as a main learning tool or as a supplemental resource, Duolingo remains one of the best online French language games for elementary students.
